Houston Restaurant Weeks (HRW) kicks off in just a few days with more than 200 restaurants participating in this year’s highly anticipated event benefiting the Houston Food Bank. Multi-course menus are now live, and the website includes filter features that sort by to-go, patio options, lunch vs. dinner and more. Below is a roundup of classic favorites as well as restaurants new to the HRW scene. Make your reservation now for delicious dining at affordable prices from August 1 to September 5.
Backstreet Café
Under the direction of award-winning Executive Chef Hugo Ortega, Backstreet Café has been a family favorite for over 38 years. Go for lunch, dinner or grab your meal to-go. They also have a beautiful patio for Houstonians willing to brave the heat. Try the duck spring rolls as an appetizer and the ricotta lemon cake for dessert.
Bistro Menil
Bistro Menil is within steps of the Menil Collections,offers European-inspired, American fare and is a great spot for lunch or dinner. Menu items include lump crab cake, beef short rib, galician octopus and more. Consider exploring the museum campus before or after your meal, including a retrospective from the Swiss artist Meret Oppenheim in the main building.
Brennan’s of Houston
Brennan’s of Houston has been a staple in Houston since opening in 1967 as a sister restaurant to Commander's Palace in New Orleans. If this is your first time, you can’t go wrong with the turtle soup, roasted Bandera quail or bananas foster. Be sure to snag a praline to-go on your way out. Enjoy!
Ouisie’s Table
Ouisies’s table offers brunch, lunch, dinner and to-go for HRW. Whether you go for blueberry pancakes for brunch or steak in the evening, you’re sure to enjoy your dining experience at this restaurant, bar and garden tucked away in River Oaks.
Rainbow Lodge
Located in Shady Acres, this upscale spot for American fare has an elegant atmosphere with historic cabin charm. The HRW menu features some favorites such as wild game and fresh seafood. The smoked duck gumbo with andouille is a must-try as well as the crispy rabbit with sweet corn risotto.
Daily Gather
Daily Gather is in the heart of City Centre and offers diners a boho chic dining experience. Menu items include signature deviled eggs, butcher burger with shaved onion on a potato bun, citrus crème brûlée and more.
Indianola
Although Indianola is not new to the Houston scene, they are new to HRW. Offering wood-grilled meats and seafood plus specialty cocktails, you can’t go wrong with this Agricole Hospitality restaurant located in the rapidly developing EaDo area.
Mad Houston
Described as “an innovative experience that blends Madrid’s famous nightlife and the very best of Spanish gastronomy,” this newish Houston hot spot serves tapas and small bites using the highest quality ingredients with surprising, creative twists. If you’re looking for a party, this is it.
Roka Akor
Located in River Oaks district, Roka Akor is modern in approach to a Japanese steakhouse. Menu items include black cod, lamb chops, flavorful appetizers and scrumptious desserts such as the baked green tea custard with caramelized banana.
