Statement by Bob Harvey, President & CEO, Greater Houston Partnership, on the selection of Partnership Board Member Ric Campo as chair of the Port Commission of the Port of Houston Authority:
“The Port of Houston is key to Houston’s standing as a great global city and North American logistics hub. With growing global energy demand driving increased bulk shipments from the port along with heavier container traffic passing in and out of the region, we must ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with that growth.”
“We think Ric is in a perfect position to lead the port commission at this critical time. He will be an outstanding advocate for the port, the workers, and neighboring communities that make it a key economic engine of our region.”
“Ric is a proven business leader with an intense passion for accelerating greater Houston’s economic growth and for creating opportunities for all Houstonians. He has an extensive track record of outstanding civic leadership. He also has the unique ability to engage stakeholders who walk into a negotiation with seemingly incongruous viewpoints and quickly bring the parties into alignment with a shared vision. That is essential for this role.”
“The Partnership looks forward to working alongside Ric and other members of the port commission to ensure the port continues to drive Houston’s long-term competitiveness.”
“We applaud and thank Judge Hidalgo and Mayor Turner, along with the Houston City Councilmembers and Harris County Commissioners, for their leadership and their confidence in Ric’s ability to serve.”
