The Greater Houston Partnership mourns the loss of Congressman Sylvester Turner. For many years, we knew him as Representative Turner and then, Mr. Mayor. Regardless of his title, everyone knew he represented Houston with unrivaled passion and energy. He tirelessly promoted Houston across the U.S. and around the world, and the Partnership was pleased to join him in trade missions across multiple continents to create opportunity for Houston. As this relentless advocate for Houston finally finds rest, we express our deepest condolences to his daughter, Ashley, and her family, along with those who knew and loved him.

Statement Attributable to Bob Harvey, former President and CEO, Greater Houston Partnership (2012 - 2023)

Sylvester Turner dedicated his life to serving Houston, first as a State Representative, then as Mayor, and recently as a member of Congress. He had a heart for Houstonians of all backgrounds, but he never forgot his roots in Acres Homes. He was a tireless advocate for the underserved. As President of the Partnership during his two terms as Mayor, I enjoyed working with him as we met with leaders of companies all around the world that were considering Houston as a location to build or expand. Most notably, we worked together to secure the headquarters relocations of NRG, ExxonMobil, HPE, and – most recently – Chevron. In every case, he was able to connect with the decision makers involved, form strong personal bonds, and make a compelling case for Houston. We will miss Sylvester Turner. My condolences to his daughter, Ashley, and his family and friends.
