Steven L. Miller
Mr. Miller served as chairman of the Partnership in 2002. He presently serves as the chairman of the Center for Houston's Future.
Miller retired as chairman, president and CEO of Shell on Sept. 30, 2002. While with Shell, he headed one of America's leading oil and natural gas producers, natural gas marketers and petrochemical manufacturers. He began his career with Shell Oil in 1967 at Shell's Deer Park Refinery. After various assignments, he was named vice president of refining and marketing in 1988.
In 1992, he joined the Shell Group management in London with responsibility for supply and marketing. In 1996, he was named director of strategy and business services and also became managing director of Royal Dutch Petroleum Company and managing director of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of companies.
Miller serves on the boards of a number of local and national organizations and institutions, including Rice University's board of trustees and the board of advisers for Rice's James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy. He is a trustee for the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast and the Points of Light Foundation. Mr. Miller also serves as a trustee of the University of Illinois Foundation.
A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Miller has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois.
